Reading Every Night
For as long as I can remember, when putting my children to bed. The routine my husband and I would set was, “bath, milk, teeth, book, toilet, lights out (bed)”.
Our kids appreciated the routine. They’d get involved with the book part avidly running to choose the book for the night.
Until of course, they both wanted to choose their own book, so then we’d end up reading two, and actually, sometimes, we’d end up reading more than that as well…(not sure how the kids out maneuvered us there).
This bedtime routine continued until the kids were about six years old. During which time, they were more interested in movies or WiiU machines. Plus, they were also going to school, so homework took up a lot of extra home time.
This blog is basically advocating that, no matter where you are in the world, setting up a healthy routine with your children around learning and reading will aide them be the best versions of themselves as they age.
Today my two kids are in there early adult phase. My daughter loves to read novals to ‘switch’ off before bed, (just like me). My son, prefers non-fictional books, things that improve his mind.
This healthy approach to learning and reading came about, from my love of books.
I have past this onto the kids, so that they can have the best head start with their education.
Reading books to your child, truly does make a big difference. Not just with your child’s mental development, but their interaction skills and confidence. Once they learnt to read, we’d be asking them to read to us.
It would totally blow our minds, to see our little ones’ reading with confidence and expression at such young ages. But we knew, that this was due to our early exposure to books.
